About this event

Welcome to the first session of this new monthly discussion group: Black Movement Thought!

Each month, we’ll pair a text from a figure in Black movement history, with a text from a contemporary movement thinker… starting with Stokely Carmichael’s thoughts on the meaning and purpose of power, paired with Alicia Garza’s.

One of the goals of this series is to introduce folks to Black Freedom Movement thinkers, both past and present, in a way that is super accessible. The readings will be short, and the meetings are only 1 hour. You’ll learn a lot, find some inspiration, and build some community in a short time!

An important note: The readings, Zoom links, and other information will be emailed to everyone who signs up here on Eventbrite. They will not be publicly available here… so be on the lookout for those emails!

Dates:

In order to be accessible to folks from coast to coast, we’ll have an earlier session that meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 3PM Pacific/6PM Eastern, and a session that meets on the first Thursday of each month, 6PM Pacific/9PM Eastern. These two sessions will be exactly the same… Please come to whichever time works best for you on any given month!

The dates for this first month are:

• February 1st at 3PM Pacific/6PM Eastern

• February 2nd at 6PM Pacific/9PM Eastern
