John Joseph Barry was born on April 13, 1955 in the French Hospital in Manhattan. He was called to the Lord unexpectedly at the age of 66 at Jacobi Medical Center where he served over 19 years as a Social Worker Supervisor. He thought serving others was a cause worthy enough to devote his career to and spent weeks working hard with plans of retirement in November.
John was known to many as the “salt of the earth”. He had a great sense of humor and always made you comfortable in his presence. He made an impression on countless friends, colleagues, and patients. He never met a stranger. He loved to poke fun and have a good time. He was a man of great faith who loved to travel, read, golf, play the drums for his church and watch his teams compete especially the Yankees and New York Giants.
John’s greatest accomplishment was his family. He especially loved his grandchildren, his dog Charlie and his faith. He believed God was his higher power and relied solely on Him. John was loved by so many. He touched so many lives without ever realizing it.
There is a story that you never leave this life without a spoon or fork in your pocket. After having a meal people always say hold onto your fork for something better is coming. We will send you off John with this in your pocket because the best is yet to come.
He is survived his loving wife Rosanne. His children Tricia (Steven) and Sean. His stepchildren Ashley (Thomas), Andrew (Nicole), Marcus and Rocco. His grandchildren John William, Raylin, Avery, and Kyler. His brother William A. Barry, his sister Lisa Pilla (Tony). Nephews and Nieces William Barry (Sara Gilbert), Kyle Clohessy, TJ Pilla (Brittany). Grandnieces Julianna Grace Pilla,
and Abigail Gilbert-Barry. His dogs Charlie and Elvis. Close friend and confidante Steve Mikolike (Denise). Along with a host of long time friends. Predeceased by his parents William A . Barry and Edythe “ Penny” Barry.
